Energy Efficiency Audits and Improvements in County Buildings

Through the American Recovery Reinvestment Act (ARRA), the County of Orange was awarded $3,500,000 from the United States Department of Energy (DOE) through the Energy Efficiency Conservation Block Grant Program (EECBG). Program funds will be used to implement a comprehensive Energy Efficiency Conservation Strategy that will improve upon the energy efficiency of a pool of county owned buildings.

The grant funding will be used to conduct energy efficiency audits and implement the identified energy efficiency retrofits. NYSERDA incentive programs will be used to leverage this funding. The County estimates nearly a 2 to 1 leveraging ratio on these projects.

The list of buildings included in the application are:

  • • New Courthouse

  • • County Government Center

  • • County Correctional Facility

  • • Valley View Nursing Home

  • • Wastewater Treatment Plant

  • • Orange Community College Maple and Tower Buildings in Newburgh

  • • DPW Administration Building

  • • Emergency Services 911 Building

  • • Department of Social Services Building on Quarry Road.

The Energy Audits will examine the potential for energy savings by evaluating things like insulation, roofing, lighting, water efficiency, digital controls, mechanical upgrades and renewable energy sources.
